At least four people have been confirmed killed in separate incidents after floods hit different parts of Kenya’s capital, Nairobi.

A police officer who was rescuing trapped families in Kamukunji was said to be among the four people who were killed by the floods. The officer from Kamukunji police station had responded to a distress call to rescue a family that was trapped in a flooded house when he was overpowered by the heavy floods.

Nairobi police boss Adamson Bungei explained that the officer and his colleagues managed to rescue the trapped family but he was swept by the floods as they were leaving the house of the flood victims.

“We searched for him in vain. We are going back to the place for further searches,” Bungei said.

The Police are still searching for the body of the missing officer even as they have warned members of the public to be careful when moving across flooded areas in the city.

The Nairobi police boss further disclosed that three other people were killed by the floods in Gigiri, Dagoretti and Buruburu areas in Nairobi. He added that the floods were being caused by poor drainage systems in some parts of the city.

Several people have also been displaced as a result of the floods which began on Sunday, March 24 through Monday, March 25. Residential houses near rivers and drainage tunnels have also been flooded.
