The Yobe State Government says it has approved the establishment of three weather stations as part of efforts to address climate change challenges in the state.

Abdullahi Bego, the Commissioner for Home Affairs, Information and Culture made this known after the state executive council meeting presided over by the Deputy Governor, Idi Barde Gubana.

In his address, Bego said that the approved weather stations would be located in Damaturu, Machina and Gulani local government areas. He noted that the establishment of the stations, with a total cost of N189.9m, aims to assist in tackling climate change issues and agricultural challenges in the region.

Malam Bego also emphasised that Yobe State had been experiencing issues such as dunes, dust storms and irregular rainfall.

He explained that the new weather stations would not only provide weather forecasts, but also contribute to the study and monitoring of climate change and its impacts on the state’s environment and agricultural sector.
