Report shows Al important in climate change fight

A new report by AI for the Planet Alliance, produced in partnership with Boston Consulting Group (BCG) and BCG GAMMA, has shown that using Artificial Intelligence (Al) is critical in the fight against climate change.

The report was released at a recent webinar organised by AI for the Planet Alliance with the title: How Al-Can Be a Powerful Tool in the Fight Against Climate Change.

It found that climate change would have significant impacts on environmental, social, political, and economic systems around the world, making climate change mitigation along with adaptation and resilience crucial.

While noting that organisations still face obstacles to achieving impact at scale, the report showed that efforts to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050 will be essential, as will efforts to prepare for the consequences of climate change and to minimise the resulting harm.

The report said that “applying advanced analytics and artificial intelligence (Al) to climate challenges provides a vital way to make meaningful change at this critical moment.”

Findings from the new report showed that as much as 87 per cent of public and private-sector leaders who oversee climate and Al topics believe that Al is an asset in the fight against climate change.
