The Union Environment Ministry has organised a three-day conference on climate change to be held in Bhubaneswar, Odisha.
Named “Vayu,” the conference which is scheduled to take place between December 2nd and 4th at Bhubaneswar’s Siksha ‘O’ Anusandhan University will have Over 500 people, including students, academics, professionals from state pollution control boards and environment secretaries, municipal commissioners, scientists, and engineers in attendance.
According to the ministry, the conference will cover a variety of topics, including scientific talks on climate change and pollution control as well as enhancing our awareness of air quality via the study of ancient books and scriptures.

By bringing together all significant stakeholders, the conference aims to among other things, consolidate the numerous initiatives taken by governments to meet the air quality goals outlined in the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP).
The nine best-performing cities will receive “National Clean Air City” awards based on Swachh Vayu Sarvekshan for fulfilling air quality targets and putting corrective, preventative, and mitigating measures in place.
NCAP is a national-level strategy for a 20-30 per cent reduction in PM2.5 and PM10 concentration by 2024 with 2017 as the base year for comparison. The programme covers 132 non-attainment cities, which do not meet the prescribed national ambient air quality standards.
Under NCAP, city-specific action plans have been prepared that include measures for strengthening the air quality monitoring network, reducing vehicular and industrial emissions, increasing public awareness, etc. PTI GVS SZM.
