The Nigeria Environmental Standards and Regulatory Enforcement Agency (NESREA) has listed 17 facilities for its first award on environmentally friendly corporate practices.
This was disclosed by the Director General of the NESREA, Prof. Aliyu Jauro at a press conference while unveiling the first edition of the National Environmental Compliance Awards (NECA).
Speaking during the unveiling ceremony, Jauro said that the award was intended to encourage other facilities to be compliant with the respective Acts that guide their industry.
He noted that the awards would be presented by President Muhammadu Buhari to the industries in food pharmaceuticals, Tobacco, and beverages for their compliance to safer practices on the environment as a motivation to fight climate change occasioned by unfriendly environmental practices.

Jauro emphasized that the action of the industries would encourage a safer, better, and more sustainable environment, which would lessen the effects of climate change in Nigeria.
In his words, “the Agency will be awarded the National Environmental Compliance Awards (NECA) to deserving facilities in different sectors who have complied with the regulations, standards, and guidelines set out in the NESREA Act.
Speaking further, he said that the rating of the facilities was done based on possession of certified Environmental Documentation, current Permits, adoption and installation of efficient pollution abatement equipment, and Corporate Social Responsivities among others.
“These awards, we believe, will re-awaken the consciousness of the regulated community on the need for compliance with environmental regulations and thereby join in the efforts being made towards sustainable development,” he said.
