An environmental expert, Mr Gafar Odubote, has asked Nigerians to adopt and use renewable energy sources to combat the effects of climate change.
Odubote, the Network Coordinator for the Let’s Do It World (LDIW) Africa Region, an environmental non-profit organization, made the recommendation in an interview with newsmen in Lagos on Tuesday.
The fight against climate change, according to Odubote, should include both adaptation and mitigation.
In his words, “We can actively address climate change actions by engaging in climate change adaptation asides mitigation.

“Climate change adaptation is the process of adjusting to the current and future effects of climate change,”he said. “It is completely different from mitigation which is the prevention or limitation of climate change effects”.
Speaking further, he said, “With adaptation, we are not just reducing the greenhouse gas emissions but making it practically non-existent.”
Odubote urged individuals and corporate entities to switch to renewable energy sources to lower greenhouse gas emissions. He also called on individuals to practice sustainable lifestyles to adequately adapt to climate change effects.
