Antonio Guterres, secretary-general of the United Nations has asked the international community to assist Pakistan in dealing with the catastrophe brought on by floods, stating that “massive investments” are required for the nation’s rehabilitation, which is expected to cost more than $16 billion.
Speaking at the opening of a major conference in Geneva Guterres said “We must match the heroic response of the people of Pakistan with our own efforts and massive investments to strengthen their communities for the future.”
He emphasized the need for innovative solutions, adding that Pakistan had been “doubly victimized” by the effects of both the climate crisis and a global financial system that denied middle-income countries access to funding and debt relief.

It was gathered that the goal of the conference is to rally assistance for Pakistan’s reconstruction following its devastating floods.
Shehbaz Sharif, the prime minister, also introduced the “Resilient Recovery, Rehabilitation, and Reconstruction Framework” (4RF) at the meeting.
The framework lays out a plan for the rehabilitation and reconstruction of the flood-affected areas and will highlight the necessity of international cooperation and long-term partnerships to carry it out.
