Union Environment Minister, Bhupender Yadav met with his Japanese counterpart, Akihiro Nishimura on Thursday to discuss how the two countries can enhance their bilateral cooperation, particularly in the areas of resource efficiency, green hydrogen, low-carbon technology, and circular economies.

In his address at the opening session of the India-Japan Environment Week, Yadav said the world needs to urgently address the problem of unsustainable production and consumption to combat the crises of climate change, pollution, and biodiversity loss.

Yadav also stressed the importance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s mantra of “LiFE, Lifestyle for Environment to tackle environmental challenges facing the world”.

On October 20, 2022, Modi announced the commencement of Mission Life, a global mass movement that will encourage both individual and group action to safeguard and preserve the environment.

He noted that at the recently finished COP27 in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt, the significance of sustainable lifestyles and patterns of production and consumption in international efforts to combat climate change was highlighted.

According to Yadav, industrial development must be focused on promoting sustainable production and consumption.
