US climate envoy, John Kerry has called on all nations to take action in order for the globe to triumph over climate change.

Speaking on Saturday at the 13th Irena Assembly in Abu Dhabi, Kerry said that 2023 should be the “year of reality” since “we are moving too slowly” to achieve important environmental targets.

In his words, “There’s nothing in the current activities of countries all around the world that indicates that we are prepared to do what we need to do in order to meet the 1.5°C goal.

“The United States is now about 10 per cent of emissions – down from 15 per cent and heading down,”he further stated. “And I have to tell you – even if we went to zero, even if China went to zero, we don’t solve the problem, every country has to step up.”

According to Kerry, countries have refused to embrace the transition to renewable energy, despite being possibly the most exciting economic shift.

He noted that the fight against climate change still required trillions of dollars and that the private sector could spearhead international efforts.
