Nigeria’s Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo has said that the Federal Government was working on issues of climate finance and specific initiatives that will progress Nigeria’s goal of attaining Net-Zero by 2060 and looking into the potential of electric vehicles in the nation.

The VP also said that the FG’s vision for a just energy transition includes obtaining enough climate finance, particularly through the African Carbon Market Initiative (ACMI).

According to a statement by Laolu Akande, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity Office of the Vice President, Osinbajo made the remarks while hosting a delegation from the US-based Rocky Mountain Institute, an international think tank that has spent the past 40 years addressing the issue of the energy transition.

Jon Creyts, the CEO of the Rocky Mountain Institute, indicated his organization’s willingness to collaborate with Nigeria on the Federal Government’s Energy Transition Plan because the commitment is also shared by the institute.

In his words, “We share the commitment with Nigeria to get to Net-Zero in 2060 and build a prosperous economy in the process.”
