EY has launched its Middle East and North Africa (Mena) Climate Change Readiness Index (CCRI), a pioneering tool designed to among other thins, help countries in the region assess and improve their resilience to the impacts of climate change.

The Index evaluates how effectively the six GCC nations, together with Egypt and Jordan, are prepared in several areas, including their ability to fund and implement effective adaptation and mitigation policies.

It offers scorecards that let governments, investors, and citizens monitor how well the included nations are doing compared to global benchmarks on 37 quantitative and qualitative indicators of climate change preparation.

The Index provides a thorough review of the regional and global context in which these nations operate, as well as the economic, political, and social variables that can affect their results.

As the first nation in the region to pursue a road to net zero emissions by 2050, the UAE has made outstanding efforts to battle climate change, according to the EY Mena CCRI. Indicators including government policy, societal and private sector preparation, policy landscape, and achievements also place the country highly.

Reacting to the launch, Yasir Ahmad, EY Mena Climate Change and Sustainability Services Leader, said that Climate change remains a global challenge and addressing it requires collective action.

“To support these efforts, we are delighted to launch the Mena region’s first Climate Change Readiness Index that will serve as a valuable tool for governments, businesses, and civil society organisations as they work to evaluate and enhance their readiness to tackle environmental challenges and impacts. The index is designed to be flexible, responsive, and personalised, allowing countries to monitor their progress over time and identify areas for improvement,”he said.
