The Prime Minister of Pakistan, Shahbaz Sharif, has called for global cooperation in order to combat the detrimental effects of climate change.

Sharif, who made the call on Tuesday, said that as one of the country’s most vulnerable to climate change, Pakistan would appreciate a global response to combat climate change and build resilience and shared the efforts being undertaken in this regard,

“Climate change is one of the defining issues of our times, and Pakistan is playing its part in this regard,” he added.

The prime minister emphasized the urgent need for climate action at a meeting with Inger Andersen, executive director of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), who was in Pakistan on an official visit.

He also praised the UNEP’s efforts and called for increased action to address climate change, biodiversity loss, and ecological degradation.

“As part of the UN system, UNEP is encouraged to contribute to and support Pakistan’s efforts to build back better and greener after the climate-induced devastating floods in the country,” Sharif stressed.
