200 rescued from flood-ravaged areas of Turkistan region

The Ministry of Emergencies in the Turkistan region has announced that at least 204 people, including 111 children, have been evacuated from flood-affected households in Turkistan’s Karnak village, Sauran and Baidibek districts.

Pumping operations are also currently underway in five settlements: Shayan and Shakpak villages in Baidibek district, Shaga village in Saran district, Sholakkorgan village in Sozak district, and Ary’s town.

To prevent further flooding of homes, 13,000 sandbags were placed. This work involves 430 employees from the Ministry of Emergency, the ministry of defence, and local executive authorities, as well as 70 specialised vehicles.

According to reports, a republican and a regional operational headquarters as well as hotline services have been established.

A total of six streets and 48 households were flooded in the Baidibek, Ordabasy and Sauran districts of the region due to heavy precipitation.

The governor of the region Darkhan Satybaldy held an extraordinary meeting on liquidation of the situation and visited the flood-hit settlements. Precipitation (rain and snow), temperatures increase, intensive snow melting and a rise in the river’s water level have since been forecast.
