The Nigerian Conservation Foundation (NCF) has called for collaboration amongst key stakeholders to increase the level of engagement and environmental education as ways of protecting wildlife resources.
The acting Technical Director of NCF, Mr Adebayo Mahmood, made the call on Thursday, at an event held at Omo Forest Reserves, Ijebu-Ode, to commemorate the 2023 World Wildlife Day.
Mahmood pointed out that the millions of plant and animal species that are in danger of extinction due to the rising global biodiversity problem continue to cause concern.

According to him, the purpose of World Wildlife Day is to recognize the many exquisite and distinctive species of wild animals and flora as well as to spread awareness of the numerous advantages that their preservation offers to mankind.
The acting director also made notice of the urgent need to intensify efforts to stop wildlife crime and species extinctions brought on by humans, both of which have significant negative effects on the economy, the environment, and society.
He attributed them to human activities that have harmed the environment, noting that the government needed the help and participation of cooperative organizations and public-private partnerships to succeed.
