To curb flooding, the Oyo State Government has started training its officers in early warning signs (EWS).

EWS will lessen risks from the disaster, according to Mr. Abiodun Oni, Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, who spoke at the workshop in Ibadan.

A synchronized warning system called EWS, he continued, will notify residents of flood-prone areas of the impending threat six hours before any flooding calamity.

Oni said: “This will allow them to evacuate their families to put an end to the loss associated with flooding.”

He described EWS as a technologically driven initiative that involved remote water level monitoring using a wired sensor network to make sure residents of flood-prone communities received the proper warning within the appropriate time frame and could take the necessary action to save lives and reduce property loss.
