African officials and investors have been urged to refocus on utilising the continent’s renewable energy resources.

Africa’s energy transformation will cost an estimated $100 billion yearly between 2020 and 2040, despite the continent’s continued high potential.

This was the message delivered by Dr. Akinwunmi Adesina, Group President of the African Development Bank (AfDB), to attendees at the just-completed Ninth Berlin Energy Transition Dialogue, which was hosted by the German government.

The head of the AfDB said that it was crucial to utilise Africa’s renewable energy resources and lessen the world’s reliance on fossil fuels. While highlighting Africa’s accomplishments and its huge potential to lead the world in sustainable development, Adesina did not forget to mention the continent’s severe energy issues.

Sighting a reviewed 2022 report, he said at least 600 million people did not have access to electricity, while 970 million people lacked access to clean energy for cooking.
