Avalanches and flash floods caused by heavy rainfall have inflicted property damages and rendered scores of people homeless in northern Afghanistan, a provincial official said Sunday.

According to Mawlawi Mohammad Akram Akbari, the provincial government’s director for Natural Disaster Management and Humanitarian Affairs, the rainfall took place on Saturday in the Kofab district of Afghanistan’s northern Badakhshan province.

He said several individuals were left homeless as a result of the avalanches and flooding brought on by the downpour that rushed through Chantio hamlet in the Kofab district on Saturday afternoon and destroyed 20 homes, 25 shops, and 600 acres of farmland.

The official demanded that aid be given to the affected family and issued a dire warning that ignoring their need would result in tragedy in the unfortunate village.

Akbari disclosed that a tremor also destroyed 75 residential houses in and outside the provincial capital Faizabad couple of days ago.
