Climate Change: Firm urges private sector to adopt renewable energy technology

PPC Limited, Nigeria’s top integrated solutions, engineering, and infrastructure development company has urged the private sector to adopt the use of renewable energy technology to hasten the diversification of Nigeria’s energy and power supply sources.

In a statement, PPC’s Head of Power Division, Engr. Kelechi Onuigbo said that Nigerians will greatly benefit from the switch from fossil fuels to renewable sources since it will result in a more reliable and affordable energy supply.

He said that the private sector also has a crucial role to play in identifying climate risks, decarbonizing their operations and increasing the share of renewable systems in their energy mix while the government is seeking the required funding, amounting to about $400 billion, to implement the energy transition plan.

He noted that solar PV alternative power supply solutions are one of the low-hanging fruits for a just energy transition by the private sector since they offer a secure, dependable, reasonably priced and easily accessible source of clean energy electricity.

Onuigbo maintained that a hybrid power supply that combines grid and renewable energy solutions would offer the continuous power supply that is essential for efficient corporate operations. He also listed additional advantages like reduced atmospheric pollution and fewer maintenance costs.
