In its effort to mitigate the effect of climate change, the Nigerian Centre for Climate Renewal Resilience and Adaptation (NICCRRA), in collaboration with Agro Preciso Ltd and other agencies and organisations, has started planting trees in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory.

The project’s premiere was yesterday at the Asokoro Primary and Secondary School in Abuja, with a goal of planting 70 trees per day.

Speaking on the occasion, Hamza Gomina, a programme officer with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), praised the event’s planners for the tree-planting activity.

According to Gomina, tree planting will lessen the impact of climate change and result in better air and stabilized soil.

In his remarks, The Managing Director of Preciso, Engr Lawal Nurudeen commended the organisers and emphasised the need for tree planting as a way of mitigating climate change.

Nurudeen called on the federal government to include tree planting in the constitution., adding that the plan was to plant 70 trees daily.
