Climate change experts from all over the Kingdom gathered at Cambodia’s first carbon-neutral conference, the Cambodia Climate Change Summit 2022, held in Siem Reap this past October.

The organizers today provided details on the event sessions, financial data, and the findings from a post-event participant survey in the final event report.

Top representatives involved in climate change issues, including H.E. Say Samal, the Ministry of Environment, American Ambassador Patrick Murphy, Australian Ambassador Pablo Kang, and British Ambassador Dominic Williams, made appearances at the two-day summit.

โ€œThe United Kingdom sees climate change as the single greatest threat facing our society today. The UK government is a global leader in climate policy and will support all countries in developing and implementing climate actions to keep the 1.5-degree target alive.

โ€œEvents such as Cambodiaโ€™s Climate Change Summit are crucial to bringing together key actors to address the huge threat we are facing. H.E. Dominic Williams, the UKโ€™s Ambassador to Cambodia, was proud to participate in the second Summit in October 2022 to further the discussion for urgent action and to host a panel discussion on pathways for energy efficiency within Cambodia.โ€ โ€“ British Embassy, Phnom Penh.

The Mekong Future Initiative (MFI), a Singapore-based think tank with a sizable Cambodian presence, and the Ministry of the Environment served as the event’s hosts. CCCS22 was sponsored by USAID, Forte Insurance, Smart-Axiata, Oxfam, and USAID.

MFI is best known for concentrating on issues relating to the future economy, youth, and employment in the Mekong region. MFI was founded by businessman-philanthropist Neak Oknha Sear Rithy. The first iteration of this summit took place in 2021, and CCCS22 was the second.

โ€œAustralia continues to support Cambodia to transition to net zero, build a more resilient, clean energy sector and unlock green trade and investment. CCCS22 provided an opportunity for key players to discuss how Cambodia can continue to achieve its energy sustainability, security, reliability and affordability targets while also meeting its ambitious climate target.โ€ โ€“ Australian Embassy, Phnom Penh.
