As part of its effort to combat climate change, Vietnam’s trade ministry has set the target to have 15-20 per cent renewable energy sources in its total primary energy supply by 2030.
According to a report citing an action plan on climate change response and green growth of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the rate would increase to 25-30 per cent by 2045.
The report showed that greenhouse gas emissions from the electricity production sector were to be maintained at about 42 million tonnes of carbon dioxide by 2050, adding that attention would be paid to promoting production and business models toward green growth.
According to the action plan, the focus would be on applying solutions to the economical and efficient exploitation and use of natural resources and energy.

In order to enhance growth quality, foster competitiveness, and lessen adverse environmental effects, it also planned to deploy digital technology and digital transformation and construct sustainable infrastructure.
As of 2021, the installed capacity of renewable energy in Vietnam reached 20,670 megawatts, accounting for 27% of the total and Vietnam is one of the top 10 nations with the most installed solar energy capacity, according to the International Renewable Energy Agency.
