Earthquake: Turkey asks Nigeria for humanitarian aid

The Turkish Embassy in Nigeria has pleaded with Nigeria to provide humanitarian aid to those affected by the earthquake that struck certain Turkish provinces on February 6, 2023.

The Embassy made the appeal in a statement made available to the media on Friday, in Abuja.

Econai+ had earlier reported how a devastating earthquake and its powerful aftershocks struck Southern Turkey and Northern Syria in a 40-second-long tremor, killing thousands of people and inflicting injuries on others. More than 20,000 people have now been confirmed dead from the incident.

The statement reads: “To the kind attention of volunteers who wish to make in-kind donations to those affected by the powerful earthquakes in Turkey,”. “Donations of the following most-needed items will be highly appreciated: Winter clothing for adults and children; winter jacket, overcoat, raincoat, boots, sweater, trousers, gloves neckpiece, neck scarf, beret, cop Socks, underwear.

It further read, “Other items are tents, bed mattresses (for the tents), blankets, sleeping bags, mummy bags, catalytic stoves with a tube, heater cylinder, tube vacuum flask, thermos, torch, power bank, and generator.”. “Food: (durable food items – canned food) baby food, formula, diapers, nappies, cleaning and hygiene materials, sanitary pads.

The embassy also asked those willing to make donations to place their items in clear bags and provide an itemised list of the contents in the bag, adding that the in-kind donations will be sent to Turkiye via Turkish Airlines in a speedy and prioritised manner.

“Donation collection point: are Abuja, No. 46 Aminu Kano Crescent, Wuse 2 Abuja, FCT. Lagos, ARMADA International Limited, 8 Solomon Agbonton Road (Aerodrome Rood)”.
