Mohammed Abdullahi, Nigeria’s Minister of Environment, has called on citizens to see the Climate Promises Initiative (CPI II) as a once-in-a-generation opportunity for the country to address its environmental problems and improve its socioeconomic status.

At the Department of Climate Change (DCC) stakeholders’ inaugural meeting on Climate Promises II in Abuja, Abdullahi, who was represented by Director of Human Resources Management, Mr Lawrence Adigwe, said the program’s launch was evidence of the government’s commitment to take significant action to mitigate the effects of climate change.

Abdullahi noted some of the world’s environmental problems, such as escalating sea levels, droughts, rising food insecurity, and community uprooting, but added that the project marks a significant turning point in the nation’s attempts to fight this potentially fatal catastrophe.

In his words, “It is a call to action for governments, businesses, civil society, and individuals to work together towards a common goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions, advancing sustainable development, and safeguarding our planet for future generations.”
