Eramet scores ‘A’ in 2022 CDP climate change ratings

A French multinational mining and metallurgy company, Eramet has been awarded an A- score in 2022 Climate Change ratings of the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), a leading international organization in terms of measuring the environmental impact of companies.

With an A- score (up from a B in 2021 and a D in 2019), Eramet is now among the top companies in its business sector of “smelting, refining, and metal forming,” which reflects its strong efforts to tackle climate change.

This year, the Group performed far better than the industry average in these ratings, which evaluate the performance of more than 5,800 organizations on a scale of A to D using a thorough, impartial, and transparent process.

This CDP rating highlights Eramet’s ongoing efforts to reduce its CO2 emissions, which are being made possible through an action plan with a long-term strategy concentrating on energy transition metals as a major pillar.

By concentrating on three key areas, including the utilization of bio-based reducers, the decarbonization of purchased energy, and the advancement of carbon capture and storage (CCS), Eramet has set an ambitious goal to cut its CO2 emissions by 40% between now and 2035 (compared to 2019).

The development of the solar facility in GCO (Senegal), the ISO 50001 (energy management) certification of all the Group’s sites, and the recovery of furnace gases for power production at Eramet Norway’s Sauda site all occurred in 2022.

Additionally, this year was the first time that Eramet was assessed as part of the CDP’s water security evaluations.

The Group was given a B- grade, which is indicative of the significant efforts being made at both its industrial and mining facilities, and, more particularly, of its dedication to the responsible management of the aquatic environment and the management of runoff water in both operational and restored areas.

According to Virginie de Chassey, Chief Sustainability and External affairs officer: “The 2022 CDP ratings are a clear recognition of the efforts made by Eramet over the past 4 years to preserve the environment and they reflect the significant progress we have made in the execution of our strategy. We are continually improving in order to reduce our carbon footprint and to restore and revegetate our mining sites. We are continuing to pursue this positive and responsible path toward progress.”
