The southeastern part of Turkey has been battered by rains since Tuesday night, wreaking devastation and flooding houses, hospitals, and commercial buildings.

According to reports from national television on Wednesday, at least five individuals died.

The governor, Numan Hatipolu, reported one death earlier in the day. In the Tut region of Adyaman, which saw significant rains, four people were reported missing as a result of a flooded garden container.

As patients are reportedly being evacuated to another hospital, the intensive care unit of the Anlurfa Eyyübiye Training and Research Hospital also reportedly flooded. Moreover, near the Abide Köprülü Junction in Anlurfa, at least six persons have reportedly been reported to be submerged in floodwaters. Firefighters assisted in pulling one person out of the water, and they were taken to the hospital via ambulance.

Anlurfa’s schools were closed on Wednesday owing to the rain, which is predicted to persist across the entire city.

The southeastern region, which was recently devastated by a pair of strong earthquakes, received an orange-code warning in the Turkish State Meteorological Service’s (TSMS) weather forecast report for the period of March 14–20.

The provinces of Adıyaman, Diyarbakır, Elazığ, Malatya, Kahramanmaraş, Mardin, Sivas, Şanlıurfa, ve Kilis were among the areas marked orange for a possible extreme downpour.
