As part of its sustainability awareness campaign, NerdzFactory Foundation in collaboration with Access Corporation has awarded the winners of the climate change essay competition for schools in Lagos State.

At an essay competition award ceremony held on Tuesday at the Ministry of Education Secretariat in Alausa, Lagos, the top three entries were given prizes.

The schools awarded were Obele Community Senior High School, Lagos Progressive Senior Secondary School, and New Era Senior girls.

Speaking at the event, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Mr Abayomi Abolaji, highlighted the importance of playing a role as a young person in the environment, ranging from disposing of waste properly to taking up bigger roles to combat climate change.

Also speaking, the Senior Special Assistant to the Lagos State Governor on Education, Dr Adetola Salau stressed the significance of the younger generation’s impact on climate change and expressed satisfaction with how far they have gone to participate in such a programme.

According to the Director of NerdzFactory Foundation, Ade Olowojoba, the programme was aimed at providing an opportunity for young people to learn about climate change and environmental sustainability, as well as to provide them with leadership opportunities to think creatively and address some of the difficulties faced as a society.

He expressed gratitude to Access Corporation, Lagos State Ministry of Education, Steam Up Lagos, and the Nerdzfactory Foundation Team, for making the event possible.
