An international non-governmental organisation, Jose Foundation says it has begun engagements with climate change bodies in Nigeria as part of efforts to curb the impact of climate change on health ecosystems.
Martins Abhulimhen, the Foundation’s president made this known when he visited the director general, National Climate Change Council (NCCC), Dr Salisu Dahiru, in Abuja, together with the volunteer advisor on Special Projects, Dr Agbor Ebuta.
According to a statement signed by Abhulimhen and issued to journalists on Friday, the meeting provided an opportunity for interactions with with the sole aim of exploring areas of collaboration.
“It is hoped that engagements like this will lead to measurable impact on how climate change effects on the health ecosystems are mitigated,”Abhulimhen said. “Stakeholders can make a real difference for our people if engagement remains uncompromising and unrelenting”.

He said that high temperature, emanating for green house gases effect and the dynamics of ozone depletion means that the temperatures will continue to rise, except drastic measures are instituted.
“Though several explanations or theories have been proposed on how this have impacted the health system, all agree that if something is not done, health indices especially in resource poor settings will progress from to bad to worse,”he said.
Abhulimhen further stated that the situation has already challenged health indices, poor maternal mortality and disturbing infant mortality ratios in the country.
“Any further denigration of this key health system indices will mean a spontaneous decline to unfathomable suffering by a majority of the population,”he said. “Therefore all key stakeholders, big and not so big, must combine efforts to support the National Climate Change Council towards coordinating actions that will activate smart intersectoral interventions which will achieve the needful.
On his part, Dahiru thanked the foundation for its commitment to tackling climate change and its impacts, while also pledging that the NCCC will support in any it can to ensure that climate change is dealt with.
