The Delegate of German Industry and Commerce in Nigeria, Katharina Felgenhauer, has said that there is a need for private and public sector collaboration to tackle climate change effects in Nigeria.

Felgenhauer made this known at the 2022 West African Clean Energy and Environment (WACEE) Summit with the theme, ‘Catalysing Sustainable Investments’ in Lagos.

In her address, Felgenhauer noted that Nigeria is currently experiencing challenges from the impact of climate change, like flooding.

She explained that the conference was aimed at promoting sustainable investment in energy, adding that WACEE is a platform for the exchange of conversations between experts and beneficiaries, to produce practical and sustainable solutions.

According to her, “for the first time in 10 years, WACEE is taking place in Lagos, bringing together the right partners to catalyse sustainable investments.”

The event which focused on clean energy, water and circular economy and featured exhibitors from around the world also had the German Consul General in Lagos, Weert Börner.

While emphasising the need for Africa to invest in green and sustainable energy, saying the event is a great catalyst for such projects, he noted that many companies in Germany, especially SMEs, are involved in improving the ecological footprint of their production, as a way of providing solutions to challenges in the environment.

On his part, Consul General, Consulate of Switzerland in Nigeria, Thomas Schneider, stated that COVID-19 showed the world that today’s challenge doesn’t end at national borders.

He maintained that climate change, which is a global issue, requires international collaboration and technological solutions.

Story was adapted from the Guardian.
