The president of King Abdullah University of Science and Technology, Tony Chan has said that creating career opportunities within the green-energy sector is of paramount importance for the future of the Middle East region.

Tony Chan told Arab News that more career options for young people should be made available in the green sector in the region during a panel discussion titled “How To Pave A Career Path In Protecting The Planet” at the Saudi Green Initiative Forum, which was held in conjunction with the COP27 UN Climate Change Conference in the Egyptian city of Sharm El-Sheikh.

He claimed that the youngsters have a “mindset of sustainability” and that this can help to address difficulties with climate change.

“The youth are in the best position to solve the problem — (they will) help solve the problem,” he added.

In light of this, he claimed that KAUST provides courses to young people all throughout the Kingdom in order to get them ready for jobs in the green energy industry.

At COP27, KAUST presented three projects: “Storing Carbon Underground,” “The Future of the Hydrogen Economy,” and “Carbon Capture through Metal-Organic Frameworks.”

Story was adapted from Arab news.
