Kogi: Farmers get inputs to cushion flood impact

The Federal Government of Nigeria, through the Value Chain Development Programme (VCDP), has distributed inputs to rural farmers affected by the flood disaster in Kogi State.

The distribution is through the Value Chain Development Programme, supported by the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD).

The National Programme Coordinator (NPC), FGN/IFAD-VCDP, Dr Fatima Aliyu, flagged off the distribution on Wednesday at the Agricultural Development Project (ADP) office, Felele, Lokoja.

The gesture, according to Aliyu, who was represented by Mr Gidado Bello, the Programme’s Human Resource Adviser, is intended to lessen the catastrophic impacts of the most recent flood disaster on rural farmers, and increase food security in the state.

She claims that the VCDP regularly runs programmes to provide rural farmers with subsidized inputs to enhance their agricultural and farm output.

She went on to say that this specific input allocation is unique since it comes right after the farmers were severely affected by the tragic experience of flooding.

According to Aliyu, the purpose of the input distribution programme is to give farmers the urgent assistance they require to continue operating their farms throughout the dry season.

She continued by saying that the gesture would show the farmers that the VCDP is on their side.

She urged the recipients to remain optimistic about partnering and working with VCDP at all times and to take comfort in the fact that VCDP would always be there for them.

Aliyu praised the state programme coordinator and her team for their outstanding achievement, which had elevated Kogi to the top of the nine States in the nation receiving VCDP funding.

Story was adapted from NAN.
