The Lagos State Water Corporation (LSWC) has called on the public and private sectors to work together to ensure that every child has access to sustainable and climate-resilient water services.

Muminu Badmus, the managing director and chief executive officer of the corporation, made the call at the start of the first-ever WASH essay competition for secondary schools, which was organized by the Nigerian Institute of Mechanical Engineers (NIMechE) and Lagos Water Corporation.

He emphasized the need for an attitude change in how the water and sanitation crisis is tackled and said that governments and other important stakeholders must attack the challenge of water shortage with renewed vigour and understanding.

In his words, “Globally, one in five children does not have enough water to meet their daily needs. Therefore, if we would be able to fulfil our duties to them, we must work hard to ensure every child has access to sustainable and climate-resilient water services.”

According to Badmus, the event highlights the significance of better water and sanitation infrastructure for encouraging hand washing and preventing infections.
