The National Agency for Great Green Wall (NAGGW) has pledged more commitments to afforestation activities to curb the challenges of climate change in Nigeria.

The Director-General of NAGGW, Dr Yusuf Maina-Bukar, made the pledge while addressing newsmen in Abuja on Tuesday to commemorate his first anniversary in office.

In his words, “Since the inception of the agency, afforestation and restoration activities have been at the heart of its activities.

“We have, therefore, focused on implementing afforestation and reforestation activities as well as land restoration and sustainable land management practices, and we have made notable achievements.”

The creation of shelter belts, woodlots, orchards, and more recently institutional planting, social forestry, and agricultural forestry, were among the accomplishments highlighted by Maina-Bukar.

Others, he added, included commercial gardens and extensive land restoration to lessen environmental issues in the affected communities.
