The Nasarawa State government has adopted a Climate Change Policy Document to reduce disasters and deforestation as well as guarantee food security in the state.

The document was developed in collaboration with the Global Initiative for Food Security and Ecosystem Preservation (GIFSEP) and with support from OXFAM.

Yakubu Kwanta, the state commissioner for environment and natural resources who made this known while opening a dialogue between stakeholders on Nasarawa State’s climate change policy programme, said that the need for the document is crucial to address some environmental challenges in the state.

The commissioner stated that under the direction of the state governor, Abdullahi Sule, environmental issues and climate change were a top priority. He also said that diversification of the economy remains key in Sule’s administration; adding that finalization of the document would help in heating up all its components.
