A Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) under the auspices of Clean-Up Nigeria (CUN), has expressed worry over the state of the environment and urged governments and key stakeholders to provide preventative steps to address the challenges.

The National Coordinator of the organisation, Mr Prince Owoh during the public presentation of its 5th State of the Nigeria Environment 2022 Report (STONER), in Abuja on Thursday.

Owoh stated that the CUN was concerned about the state of the environment and added that the problem would be resolved with the help of the government and other important parties.

While presenting the 5th STONE report, Owoh announced that Akwa Ibom State emerged as the cleanest state for the year 2022 in Nigeria, with a cumulative score of 62 per cent.

He said that Ebonyi took 2nd with 45 per cent while Bauchi emerged 3rd position with 44 per cent, adding that Abuja emerged as the cleanest city in Nigeria for the year 2022 with 79 per cent followed by Uyo with 63 per cent.

He claimed that the report’s main goal was to raise awareness and put sanitation and waste management on the agendas of both the government and the general public, adding that the initiative would ultimately improve the quality of life for everyone and raise the average life expectancy in Nigeria to 54 years.

He asked Nigerians to practice excellent personal hygiene, adequate sanitation practices, and proper waste disposal.

Story was adapted from NAN.
