An effort has been made by a Chinese company to lessen the suffering of flood victims in Pakistan by donating sports shoes worth Rs38 million.

33 million people were affected by the unprecedented floods brought on by climate change-related rains in Pakistan in 2022, which also washed away hundreds of thousands of animals, homes, bridges, schools, hospitals, and other infrastructure.

Over 7.9 million people were left homeless last year as a result of the record-breaking rain and flooding, which also claimed 1,700 lives.

The business reportedly started an initiative called “Put on Chinese Shoes, Rebuild New Home” in January, according to the China Leather Industry Association.

One of China’s top sports brand companies acted to show support for the people in Pakistan who were affected by the floods.

The company has received sincere gratitude from Pakistan’s ambassador to China, Moin Ul Haque, for its kind assistance to the flood-affected communities in Pakistan.

He said that receiving the donation allowed him to experience the kindness of the Chinese toward the Pakistani people once more.

A World Bank report released on October 28, 2022 states that Pakistan suffered losses totaling more than $30 billion as a result of the floods.

“The assessment estimates total damages to exceed $14.9 billion, and total economic losses to reach about $15.2 billion. Estimated needs for rehabilitation and reconstruction in a resilient way are at least $16.3 billion,” read the report.

In January 2023, Pakistan secured $10.7 billion in flood pledges, well over a targetted $8 billion, as it scrambles to mobilise funds to rehabilitate the devastated 33 million population and repair damages worth billions.

The cash-strapped nation clinched the pledges at the one-day International Conference on Climate Resilient Pakistan in Geneva after Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif launched an $8 billion flood aid appeal, aimed at helping the country overcome the devastation caused due to the cataclysmic floods.
