Pilot project examines climate change for Caribbean nations

In order to conduct airborne lidar and orthoimagery surveys throughout the Caribbean, NV5 Geospatial has developed a partnership with the Caribbean Community Climate Change Center (CCCCC).

The pilot project will deliver cutting-edge geospatial data to the island nations to aid in their understanding of both natural and man-made climate change, the development of programmes to enhance resilience and sustainable development, and the establishment of a basis for future work.

Using a fixed-wing aircraft, NV5 Geospatial will carry out topographic and topobathymetric lidar surveys as well as orthoimagery.

The collected data will assist CCCCC in addressing the effects of climate variability and identifying potential negative effects.

Almost 3,000 miles will be covered by the project’s ten sites. Suriname, Guyana, Tobago, Barbados, Saint Lucia, Antigua and Barbuda, St. Kitts and Nevis, Turks & Caicos, and Belize are among the locations.

The mix of the microclimates that naturally surround tropical islands, the weather’s extreme variability, cloud formations, and jungles—some of which are in high relief places or cover the entire area—are additional logistical challenges.
