The Regional Administrative Secretary (RAC) for Mwanza, one of the regions in Tanzania, Balandya Elikana has asked locals to plant more trees in an effort to mitigate the consequences of climate change.

Speaking during the Independence Day celebration of the country, Elikana suggested that the greatest approach to combat climate change effects, such as drought and global warming that threaten agricultural production, was by planting trees.

He said that each district in Mwanza needed to plant 1.5 million trees in order to achieve the ambition of recovering the vegetation.

“We need to have collaborative efforts to mitigate climate change for us to prosper in agricultural production and enhance the industrial economy,”Elikana was quoted as saying.

Debora Ezekiel, a prominent member of the Chama cha Mapinduzi (CCM), emphasized that the independence and maturity of Tanzania’s democracy in Africa and around the world were reasons why there are more women in politics.

According to Ezekiel, upholding gender equity in all facets of national development, such as safeguarding the environment and its natural resources, will aid in the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals and reduce poverty, one of the nation’s enemies.
