The body of former Ghanaian international player Christian Atsu was discovered beneath a collapsed building in Antakya, bringing the total number of fatalities from the terrible earthquake in Turkey and Syria to over 44,000 as of Saturday.
Only a few individuals have been discovered alive beneath the wreckage in recent days, and Yunus Sezer, the chairman of Turkey’s disaster service, said that rescue efforts will be completed by Sunday night.
Three persons were discovered alive on Saturday, nearly two weeks after the 7.8-magnitude earthquake that struck Turkey on February 6 was first reported by the state news agency Anadolu. A 12-year-old was among them, but the agency later confirmed that he had passed away.

Atsuโs manager confirmed on Saturday that his body had been discovered in Antakya, underneath a collapsed structure.
The 12-story luxury apartment complex where he died was constructed in 2013 when Turkey’s building regulations were stricter.
Outrage at the collapse of Atsu’s block, a relatively recent structure that couldn’t resist an earthquake, spread throughout Turkey.
The building’s contractor was later arrested by Turkish authorities after attempting to leave the nation.
