US Department of Energy Secretary, Jennifer Granholm has applauded China’s climate policies, saying that Americans can “learn from what China is doing” in combating climate change.

“We are hopeful that, you know, we can all learn from what China is doing.”

The Biden administration announced this week that $6 billion in funding will be used to expedite decarbonization initiatives in energy-hungry sectors including steel, aluminium, and cement production, which are responsible for approximately 25% of US greenhouse gas emissions.

The initiative is a component of President Biden’s commitment to decarbonizing the American economy by 2050. Granholm noted that the initiative would boost American manufacturing’s competitiveness while reducing emissions.
