The Climate Parliament Nigeria Network in collaboration with Chanja Datti, a non-governmental organisation (NGO) has commenced the installation of plastic and bottling recycling bins at the National Assembly complex as part of measures to address issues of climate change.
The installation is among other things, intended to increase the understanding of plastic and aluminium cans, waste disposal and the urgent need to protect the environment from the harmful effect of plastic and aluminium cans waste.
Speaking during the unveiling and installation of Plastic Bottles and Aluminum Cans in Abuja, Mr Sam Onuigbo, Chairperson, Climate Parliament Nigeria Network, said that the project is expected to influence behavioural change in plastic and aluminium cans disposal and positively impact the National Assembly’s immediate and external environment.
He said that it was the first time in Nigeria’s history that plastic recycle bins have been installed at the National Assembly, adding that he hopes that the items would help in driving the circular economy by supporting legislation, on single-use plastic legislation which can drastically reduce plastic pollution in Nigeria.
