President Muhammadu Buhari has inaugurated a 2.0-megawatt solar-powered electricity project at the Usmanu Danfodiyo University Sokoto (UDUS), which is expected to improve the institution’s energy supply and youth training.
Speaking during the inauguration ceremony, Buhari said that the initiative was a strategic effort employing contemporary technology to address the issue of climate change in order to reduce carbon emissions by 20%.
Buhari who was represented by Alhaji Maigari Dingyadi, Minister of Police Affairs, said that it will enable a safe and conducive learning environment on universities campuses, communities, security as well as support the drive for girl child education and improve the quality of healthcare services.

However, he reaffirmed the federal government’s commitment to the effective supply of energy to the country through a variety of programs designed to promote strong corporate growth and enhance Nigerians’ quality of life.
He explained that the project- being implemented by Rural Electrification Agency (REA)- was done under the Energizing Education Programme (EEP), and conceptualized to power Federal Universities and University Teaching Hospitals in the country.
